March- Re-cap on experience!!!

This Experience i have had these past weeks have given me a true incintive to follow politics later in life. I have learned life lessons on how to become self-dependent as well as to be a more well-rounded person. This experience i have gotton is an honor i can not thank everyone enough for allowing me to participate in. I have had a lot of fun working at the General Assembly as a messenger and i hope to apply to be a page in the U.S. Senate or the White House when i am in 10th or 11th grade.
The jobs i have had to preform have been:
1. Copy room [aka making sure the copier doesnt jam while someone is making copies]
2. Clerks office [running errands throughout the capitol and General Assembly Building for Mrs. Shaar]
3. Chamber Floor- [Waiting on the page bench until called on by a Senator to preform a task like going to the GAB building to get them some papers or lunch]
4. Gallery- [ punching in information for people who will be getting introduced in the gallery]
5. Reception Desk- [Telling people where Senator "so and so's" office is located]
6. Collating bills- [pulling bills out and putting them in numerical order and putting them in the bill calendar each day]
7.Answering telephones for Senators-[ "Good morning senator ____'s office, this is Cassie speaking how may i help you?".......[pause]....."So its Senate Bill Number___ you think this Senator should vote for?"...[pause]..."Thank-you for your input i'll be glad to tell him/her." [hang-up]....]
8. Recycling- [ going to the 3rd,1st,2nd,6th, and 5th floors on 2 days a week to recycle papers]
9. Legislative Library- [Collating bills for them]
10. Committee- [ i went to the Committee on Rules and the Committee on Transportation...I sat there with another page and we did errands for the Senators during Committee like getting them coffee or passing out papers on bills.]

This expierence also came with it 36 remarkable friendships. Each person had such a glowing personality you would love to be arpund them. We all get online onto Facebook to talk about how our day is going and we are planning reunions as quickly as we can, so we can see eachother as often as possible.

For anyone who is iterested in the legislative process and wants to learn more about it, this experience will be the best of your entire life, like it was mine. You get the first hand look at the legislative process, as well as 36 new friendships. :P [I will post later in more detail] p.s. don't be afraid to ask questions, i'll be glad to reply. :)

My schedule!

Hello everyone, today is Thursday! Well as you can probobly guess by the title of this post, it's about my schedule! Well i'm sorry to dissapoint you all, but we don't have an official schedule! We only know for sure what our assignments are once we enter the page room and look at the posted lists. Last week i had to work for the Legislative research library in the mornings where i collated and filed bills in numerical order! Then I was on the floor all last week where i handed out papers to Senators and sent messages throughout capitol square, and once or twice went to order food to Senators. This week i worked in the clerk's office where i ran errands and packages throughout capitol square and worked at the reception desk. At the reception desk i had to signal people to Senators rooms and help them make reservations for the committee rooms. I am very excited and fortunate to be having this experience to be seeing the Legislative process firsthand. I have made friends with all the pages and i hope to continue the friendships throughout my life! I will blog again soon....so look for another post. :D

Orientation/training!! :D

Hello everyone, today is January 12th, 2009!! This past day has been very informative, with news and rules ranging from don't travel alone because there has been a murder on Capitol square all the way to, we can't use iron's in our rooms because previous pages make grilled cheese with the irons. i have made friends with all the pages here, and the supervisors are pretty cool also. Today i have been in training, and my feet are killing me! i have learned all the [i]Proper[/i] ways to do everything! Things from lesser values such as how to open a door for a senator [which isnt as easy as it looks when 30 or more people are going in and out the doors at the same time], to how to collate bills and answer phone calls for senators! Last night, all the pages had a party and we ordered pizza! it was a blast, and i must confess that my bedtime has been extended to....whenever! So believe me i am taking advantage of that opportunity. On Martin Luther kings day all the previous pages come back and play practical jokes on us.....[i] i cant wait[/i] I have heard they push girls into boys rooms and visa versa. which will result in immediate dismissal from the program. We also took a tour, which was more detailed and more informative then the tour we got when we went there, i will post that information as well at a later time. Well thats all we did so far, and i will be posting back very soon. :D I miss al of you guys and i cant wait to come back March 2nd.....well the hotels are VERY nice, so i'm not so sure i'd be ready to leave very soon. :D Bu-byeee

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! Now since you should already know what to do I'm just going to get you started on questions i wanted to know about also.
1. How much do you get paid?
2. What do you have to wear?
3. Are the people nice?
4. What do you do?
5. Is it hard?
6. how can i become a page?
7. Do you have any advice for someone looking into being a page?
8. Is it fun or boring?
[ you can ask these questions or other ones you can come up with. I can answer them all]

Entry One - Cassie

Welcome to my blog. I am relatively new to blogging, but i have created previous websites. This blog, will play host during my adventure in Richmond. I will be learning the law process and will be running errands for various senators at the state capitol. I will be a "page" or an assistant that will preform tasks during my duty as a page. I will be absent from school as well. I will be working hard in completing my school tasks and returning them to my teacher's liking. So far, this is what i expect from the information given to be my daily schedule:

1. Be at the capitol page room promptly at 8:00a.m.

2. Work from 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. [or whenever the general assembly is dismissed]

3. Free time from dismissal until 6:30p.m. [usually used for eating dinner]

4. From 7:00 p.m. to 9:30p.m. [i will be completing the school work that will be sent up to Richmond]

5. Be in hotel room by 10:3op.m.

* Ask me anything you are curious of knowing or you just want to know how i am doing. I have no limits, just one rule. When posting a comment leave your name such as : Mrs.McBride's class or just some way of me knowing who you are.

Thank-you for taking the time to visit my blog
